While Lesley & Geoff were on holiday we received an email via this website’s contact form from Stephen in Tunbridge Wells who stated he had lost his wedding ring in a piece of waste ground adjacent to his house and requesting the club’s help in trying to find it. Stephen had been gardening and had noticed his wedding band was missing after throwing some grass cuttings over the fence about 6-8 weeks ago. A friend had suggested that he try a metal detecting club and on searching the internet up came WKDC.
Lesley & Geoff contacted him on return from their holiday and on Saturday 1st September they arrived at Stephen’s house and surveyed the scene! The search area didn’t look promising and was full of brambles although Stephen had cleared some of the ground while attempting an eyes-only search but had been unable to find the missing ring.
After collecting the machines from the car, Geoff climbed over the fence into the waste ground while Lesley was preparing to search the garden side of the fence. As the Deus machines interfere with one another at such close quarters Lesley was talking to Stephen while Geoff switched on his machine in the waste ground. The usual happened, iron everywhere, groan! But within less than a minute Geoff got a good sharp signal (88) under the grass cuttings beneath a tree and after digging a small hole in the wet loamy soil and poking around a bit up came the ring!
Stephen and his wife were estatic to see the ring because it had been made by a late jeweller friend and was of great sentimental value. The ring had been designed as a unique piece of art with a map of the world around the wide gold band.
It had actually taken longer to get the detectors and other gear from the car than it had to find the ring!
Although, we do offer a free recovery service Lesley & Geoff were seen leaving Stephen’s house with a large punnet of plums!
