A good turn out for this search, fourteen members attended the search on Sunday the 4th November. Conditions on site were good and the ground was moist but not much mud. We were lucky we were given three fields of harvested maize with the stubble quite sparse and these areas were easy to dig. On the pasture fields the grass was quite short but the ground was very hard to dig. The day remained dry but cloudy and the temperature remained mild throughout the day. The fields were fairly clean with not a great deal of iron. As for finds, there were a large number of very poor quality copper coins. The highlight of the day was a 1573 Elizabeth 1st hammered silver sixpence in fine condition, also there is a possibility of a Celtic coin. A very enjoyable day out metal detecting.
