Search Report For Sunday 5/5/19

This is our most distant site thus a late meeting time. Sixteen members attended the search and one new applicant. Another fine dry day for metal detecting. On route to the meeting point there was a multiple car crash on the M23 but luckily the road was not closed and we all managed to get to meeting point on time.

The best find of the day was a Silver Commonwealth Halfcrown 1649-1656, unfortunately the date had been clipped and it had been drilled, but what a great find!

The next good find was a WW2 watch, with the inscription clear on the back RCAMC (Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps) dated 1940 with the owners name and a serial Number. The surround was gold, the watch was beyond economical repair.

Other finds included are large number WW2 artefacts including some live ammunition. A number of older copper coins, the ones found in the woods were in better conditions than those found in the fields. It was interesting that some of the copper coins had been cut or severely bent.
