How about this for a weird recovery request ! Yesterday I had a call from a woman who said she had found my name as a detectorist on the internet and asked if I could help her. She said she was at her wits’ end and didn’t know where to turn. ‘Could your machine find a metal object in my 9 month-old baby’s body? ‘, she asked. I replied that it was theoretically possible, but pointed out that I was unpractised in this area of metal detection …
She explained that her baby had swallowed a piece of a tiny knife (??) measuring around 3mm x 4mm . The hospital had located it after taking two x-rays, but was unwilling to undertake further similar tests as it could be dangerous to the child. The consultants said that it was possible the item had cleared naturally, but the mother was still concerned of course.
I said that if she brought the baby to me I would be more than happy to help if I could. As I hadn’t heard back from her I phoned and she said that her GP thought that passing a coil over the baby could be harmful! Something about the electro-magnetic waves, she thought…..
Anyway, that’s where it currently rests, so watch this space ! Er, can you start engraving my name on the Recovery Trophy now please.
