Members,
The dumping of green waste on farm land is not only ruining our hobby it is also contaminating the land for decades to come. If this continues metal detecting in this country will become a thing of the past. The dumping of this material is nothing short of legalised fly tipping and has to be stopped.
As you will see from this email, green waste has become the biggest threat to our hobby. It is nothing less than “agricultural vandalism”
If someone was to fly tip an old three piece suite down a country lane there would be uproar from all those who love this country and its wildlife. However if that same three piece suite were shredded and spread on the land then those same people would be as concerned if not more.
That is exactly what’s happening along with wood, plastics, metal, rubber and accompanying chemicals and poisons.
We have to act now. It is vital that this petition is circulated far and wide, to friends and family, acquaintances and colleagues.
Please watch the short video (link below) and please add your name to the petition by clicking the bottom link.
To stand any chance of success the petition will need at least 100,000 signatures, but every little helps. Please forward the message to anyone else you know who may sign it.
Please support this. The future of our hobby and the health of our countryside is at stake
regards

From John Wells – the latest update
Hi All,
I am collating as much information on Green Waste as I can possibly get. That includes photos, locations, verifiable testamonies, witness statements (sites etc.)
I would prefer that these were sent to me by post (good pictures) but will take alternatives.
If Byron and I are to meet with Sir Bob Russell MP for Colchester who is willing to seek an Adjournment Debate in the House of Commons, then I want some good evidence around me. So far all I have had is platitudes from GreenPeace, Friends of the Earth and DEFRA presumably because we are not headline grabbing enough, but as we ramp this up I feel they will come on board. It’s up to you and your members to supply us with ammunition if we are to succeed. We may get only one chance at this so let’s get it right.
There may be reluctance on the part of some of our Members not to rock the boat and upset friendly farmers. Just tell them that if Green Waste becomes the rule rather than the exception there won’t be any friendly farmers or farms to go on.
For those of you who go on the various forums and can gain permission to use material that is non NCMD, please do so, but get authorisation.

The latest from John Wells regarding Green waste:
Hi All,
I am in discussions with the BBC on the possibility of doing a programme on Green Waste. I have supplied some information thus far but I know that they will want more. I really need your members to supply me with as much information as they have. Photographs, videos, testimonials etc. and in particular farmers who feel aggrieved about dumping on their land and are willing to be interviewed. Your co-operation on this is paramount. I know my previous request drew an underwelming blank some weeks ago but now that we have a chance of a public hearing then I feel that this opportunity should not be missed. Please circulate your regions and clubs with this request
regards
John
