Due to insufficient support from members the club has, regrettably, cancelled its participation in the Smallholders Show at Ardingly due to be staged over the weekend of 30th June/1st July.
Agricultural fairs, country shows and ploughing matches are the club’s primary means of gaining new search sites but unfortunately our participation during the past few years has been supported by just a few core people. I am afraid that unless there is more assistance from members not just in terms of attendance but in storage and transportation of materials we will not be able to reserve space at future events.
On a brighter note we did manage to put on a finds display for 200 or so members of the World Charolais Congress who were visiting a farm site in Kent. Cattle-owning guests from all over the world expressed great interest in our displays. We didn’t manage to sign up any new sites in Australia, North America or New Zealand, but you never know ….
The club was also involved in the BBC’s recent event at Hall Place in Bexley, held in conjunction with Michael Wood’s TV series The Great British Story. Nearly 2000 attended and Ken, Gill , Ron and I were kept very busy throughout the day elaborating on the finds being displayed and waving the WKDC flag !
Our next event is at the Heavy Horse Show at Shoreham, Kent on Sunday 2nd September. Help would be greatly appreciated !
