Well, it finally happened!
After being postponed because of the inclement weather, Sunday 5th August saw the Club hold it’s Family Fun day and what a day it was! The weather was kind to us in general, all but one brief shower of rain.
Members, their families and friends turned up at 10am and mustered for the start of the event – the final count of attendees that was heard was 33. Ken & Gill had worked their magic at the scene and had organised the day’s event to perfection!
The detecting competition took place in a similar manner to last year with a knock out event. All competitors started in a large area trying to find a token with ‘A’ on it – the first ten so to find were mustered for the second search and the others were knocked out! In the second section five discs with ‘B’ were to be found and in the final section there were three tokens with ‘W’ on them. Between the second and third sections of the competition, we had a welcome break for the barbecue, very ably cooked by Andrew and members enjoyed hot dogs and burgers. The third part of the competition then took place.
The winner was Graham H. who found the first ‘W’ in under five minutes, the second was Dave F. and after a somewhat long search, the third token was found in Ben S.’s pouch! You can see the winners receiving their Olympic style gold, silver and bronze medals in front of the Union Jack backdrop – however, there wasn’t a rousing rendition of the National Anthem to accompany the medal ceremony!
Other ‘side shows’ were provided by Ken and Gill such as ‘Splat the Rat’, ‘Welly throwing’, boules, badminton and many others!
It was great to see so many of you come out and hopefully enjoy yourselves and it was especially good to see Guy and his family who are over on holiday from the Czech Republic.
