Dear all,
An agenda for the next LEGISE meeting will be sent out shortly. On this agenda will be an update on the ‘green waste’ issue. I have recently contacted the Environmental Agency office that deals with the SE of England to get more information about the scale of the problem in this part of the country. The representative I spoke with told me that the situation is being monitored and is widespread and very serious. The EA is in need of specific information that can help them to seek out the various sources of the contaminated waste, so I am appealing to you all to please let me have details, including locations (name of farm and / or grid ref of contaminated field) and photos if you have them, where you have seen concentrations of contaminated green waste in the fields you search. This information will be handed to the EA in strict confidence without any reference to you as the source of the information. If any of your club members can assist in this, please either ask them to contact me directly or pass any details they can offer onto me. The EA has advised me that the regulations specify that green waste should not contain contaminants such as wood, metals, plastics, ceramics etc.,and should only contain vegetable waste that can be composted.
If you have not so far advised me as to whether you will be attending the meeting and require the buffet lunch, please let me know by 27th October latest.
Regards
Clive Sinclair
