Twelve members attended the search on Sunday 17th February. The land owner had arranged permission for us to search on two new fields which he currently rents.
One was an old show ground field, this produced over fifty coins nearly all pre-decimal, mostly copper coinage but amongst them a good sprinkling of silver dating from 1900 to the late 1930’s .There were also a number of interesting artefacts that will need to be researched.
The second field was the river flood plain. Finds here were more sparse than the show ground field, but produced a George III shilling in good condition and two possible medieval buckles.
Nine walkie talkies were issued to members, although not used much proved useful for in field communication and the range covered the whole search area.
As for conditions, the soil was moist and easy to dig. Once the early mist cleared it was a warm sunny day such that after lunch it was tee-shirt weather, although it cooled a bit, later in the day.
