The Government response to the consultation on the Treasure Act
We have highlighted some of the important points from the report on our website https://www.ncmd.co.uk/news/ as well as providing a link to the full Department of Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) report on the consultation with their response.
As a taster, there is a proposal to widen the scope of what could be included in the definition of treasure within The Treasure Act, as well as a proposal to speed up the process of dealing with treasure items.
Please note that this is only the first stage in the process of any changes to The Treasure Act 1996 and things will not happen overnight.
The Department of Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) are keen to discuss any proposed changes with the NCMD and you, our members, before drafting the final legislation to bring them into law. We’ll let you know how you can get involved in this over the next few weeks.
